If you find yourself outside, barbecuing all winter long to avoid your kitchen, it might be time to make a change. A new kitchen might not be in the budget but there are loads of things you can do to spruce up your kitchen that are both affordable and easy.

A Kitchen wall

A kitchen renovation can be costly. But don’t worry, if a complete kitchen renovation isn’t a possibility just yet, you might still be only a few small projects away from enjoying your kitchen to it’s fullest potential.

Paint

A fresh coat of paint on the walls will cure most rooms in your house from looking stale and bland so why should your kitchen be any different? For under $100, the look and feel of your kitchen can be transformed. Don’t be afraid of colour. There are many areas in your kitchen that will break up the colour and a bolder choice will inevitably make your kitchen a happy place.

Plants

With the amount of traffic in your kitchen, this room can sometimes feel like the living, breathing epicenter of your home. Adding fresh plants will only add to this atmosphere. Plants can be placed just about anywhere in the kitchen. If you are worried about accessing these plants in places likes the bulkhead for watering purposes, perhaps some artificial foliage is in order. With the distance from eye level a little farther away, no one will know the difference. Fresh flowers will also do the trick and a big bouquet in the middle of the kitchen table will distract from less appealing aspects of the room

New Upholstery

Many kitchen chairs and stools come with fabric seats. For just a few dollars and a trip to your local fabric store, those seats can be transformed and new colour can be added to your kitchen. Over the years, these fabrics can become worn and stained. With just a small time and cash commitment, they can be restored. You will need some elbow grease to remove the old fabric and a staple gun to re upholster with the fabric of your choice.

New Hardware

While new cabinets might be your first choice in freshening up your kitchen, your budget might have different ideas. For under $100, the hardware on your cabinetry can be replaced. New handles and drawer pulls will give the old cabinets a fresh modern look and extend the life of your kitchen. Be sure to give those cupboards a good scrubbing while you’re at it.

Refinish the cabinets

Most cabinets can withstand a good painting. If it’s not in your budget to have them professionally done, consider taking on this project yourself. There are many products out there specifically designed for kitchen cabinets. This can be a time consuming project and one that will need perseverance.  Cabinets take up the bulk of the room in the kitchen and when they are treated to a fresh coat of paint, the makeover can be remarkable.

Beautify your walls.

Adding colour to your walls doesn’t just have to come in the form of paint.  Consider adding pops of colour by hanging some art. A chalkboard or corkboard will add dimension to the space and create some organization as well.  Small shelves will get things off the counter and reduce clutter.

Loving your kitchen again is possible and it doesn’t have to break the bank.  With a few bucks, a little imagination and some effort, your kitchen may not be looking showroom ready, but at least it will once again be an inviting place to gather.
