The age-old dilemma of move or renovate was the inspiration for this project. The family loved the neighbourhood, the neighbours, the lot and the proximity to schools and the kids activities. The home was very choppy and made up of smaller rooms that didn’t see much use. The formal living and dining rooms took up almost 1/3rd of the main floor and were used maybe 3 times a year. The kitchen was very small and dark and the entire main floor did not get very much natural light at all. The goal of this renovation was to get rid of any rooms that didn’t get used and create larger living spaces for the rooms that did. This involved taking out load bearing walls and re-routing some plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Because of this, the homeowner decided to redo the laundry room, basement and garage as well, as they needed to be ripped apart in the process.

The finished project was completed in just under 4 months and has provided a beautiful open concept space with natural light and larger rooms that get used daily. The garage was converted to somewhat of a “man/kid cave” and the basement became movie room and home gym. The style of this project is very transitional and design elements like rustic barn board were used throughout in order to carry the theme from room to room. The cabinetry is from Decor Cabinets in Manitoba ( DECOR ) and the counter tops are all Cambia by QuartzCo. in Niagara ( QuartzCo ) Please feel free to contact us see how we can transform your existing space and keep you in your home!
